Area seniors have special days coming up at a couple of big events. Next Thursday is opening day, and Senior Day, at the State Fair of Louisiana. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., residents 50 and older are invited to the event in the Hirsch Coliseum, where they'll get free parking, free admission to the event and free admission to the State Fair midway. They are asked, though, to bring one or more canned goods to donate to the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana to the registration booth at the main entrance of the Hirsch. Inside, there will be lots of helpful information, free health screenings and door prize giveaways.

Then, On November 16th, those 55 and older can get in to Sci-Port: Louisiana's Science Center, free -- from 9 a.m. til 1 p.m. That includes free admission to the IMAX movie "Greece: Secrets of the Past" and the 10th anniversary celebration party for The Best of Times magazine. Lots of door prizes and information from the many exhibitors there, as well. Seating for that event is limited, and the deadline for reservations is 4 p.m. on November 14th. Visit The Best of Times website for more information about both events.
