SHREVEPORT, LA - Shreveport police have caught up with a suspect illegally possessing a gun.

Here's info from SPD:

On April 4th at approximately 11:50 p.m. VICE officers observed a suspicious individual sitting in a vehicle in the 1000 block of Stoner Avenue and the Stoner Boat Lauch. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the individual, identified as 44-year-old James Owens, had a firearm.

Subsequent inquiries revealed that James Owens was prohibited from possessing a firearm due to a prior felony conviction. Consequently, Owens was taken into custody by VICE officers for the charge of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

Officers seized the gun and Owens was arrested and taken to the Shreveport city jail for processing.

The news release adds:

"Possession of firearms by convicted felons is a serious offense, and we will continue to diligently enforce the law to ensure the safety of our community. The Shreveport Police Department urges anyone with information regarding illegal firearm possession or any other criminal activity to contact authorities promptly."
