Shreveport Fire Chief Scott Wolverton has announced plans for the first Fire Ops 101 Program, which is set for tomorrow.

It'll be held at the Shreveport Regional Fire and Police Training Academy, located at 6440 Greenwood Road, Thursday, September 22, from 3-8 p.m.

The goal of the joint program between the SFD and IAFF Local 514 is to educate elected officials, local media and community associations of the challenges firefighters face each day while serving the citizens of Shreveport.

Here's more about the program, courtesy of an SFD news release:

This program will include actually suiting up in fire fighter protective clothing, donning self-contained breathing apparatus and actually going inside a real fire to experience first-hand the environment in which fire fighters work. Although in a controlled situation, nevertheless it will provide participants the opportunity to see and feel what fire fighters deal with on a daily basis. Fire Ops 101 promises to be a very exciting and informative day.
