In a recent study, UC Davis professor Dean Simonton used historiometric methods to estimate each president’s IQ. The prof analyzed information from each president’s biographies, speeches and writings that would indicate overall intelligence.

Simonton estimated four different IQ values for each president. Inside.gov averaged all four to get rankings of the least intelligent presidents in U.S. history. Note that President Obama was not included in the study.

With an average IQ of 126.4, these presidents are still smart.  For reference, the average IQ for the general public is 100.

Here are Simonton's "Least Intelligent 10", and their estimated IQ:

10) Gerald Ford 127.2

9) William Howard Taft 126.8

8) Andrew Jackson 126.2

7) James Buchanan 125.9

6) Zachary Taylor 125.6

5) Andrew Johnson 125.5

4) George W. Bush 124.8

3) Warren G. Harding 124.3

2) James Monroe 124.1
