A morning fire damages a Highland-area home. Just before 7:15, Shreveport firefighters were called out to a reported house fire in the 3600 block of Fairfield. They arrived minutes later to find a one-story brick home with smoke coming from the attic eaves and vents. Firefighters had the blaze under control in about 15 minutes. The homeowner tells them he was awakened by smoke coming from the ceiling openings, and he saw fire coming from there and the attic scuttle hole. He tried to attack the fire using an extinguisher, but the flames had spread too quickly. The three adults inside at the time all got out safely. The cause of the fire is under investigation. A reminder from the SFD: never delay in calling 911 for help if your house is on fire. The first priority is getting out safely.
