A 15-year-old Huntington High School tenth grader has been arrested for having a handgun on campus.

School security officials notified police after receiving tips about the gun. Police quickly located and detained the student and found an unloaded .40 calibre handgun in his waistband. Police say the student has not told them why he had the gun but they say there were apparently no threats made and the campus was not locked down. Parents, however, were notified of the incident.

The teen was booked into the Caddo Juvenile Detention Center on charges of carrying a firearm or dangerous weapon by a student on school property and illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile. The school system says the student has been suspended pending an expulsion hearing.
