A Saturday afternoon fire in the 400 Block of Summit Drive has heavily damaged a two-story house.

Bossier City firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from a room and exterior porch on the second floor.  It took them about 20 minutes to bring the fire under control -- their efforts hampered by gusty winds that were fanning the flames. They did manage to keep the fire from spreading to much of the house.  City spokesman Mark Natale says the fire was so intense that it caused minor to moderate heat damage to the house next door.

Three people are believed to have been home when the fire broke out.  They all got out safely.  Fire investigators have determined that the fire was caused by a lit cigarette discarded in a paper cup on the upstairs deck.
