A Shreveport woman shot late last night by her former boyfriend is recovering from her wounds while the suspected gunman apparently took his own life following the incident.

At approximately 9:59 p.m. on April 16, 2012, Shreveport Police patrol officers were dispatched to a home in the 1300 block of Lawhon Street relative to a shooting.  Upon arrival, patrolmen discovered 33 year old Lakeisha Robinson suffering from a single gunshot wound to the torso.  Robinson was transported to LSU Health by the Shreveport Fire Department with what was described as a serious but non-life-threatening injury.

Detectives immediately responded and learned the victim was allegedly accosted at her home there on Lawhon Street by her ex-boyfriend, later identified as 46 year old O.B. Mitchell.  According to witness statements as well as evidence recovered at the scene of the crime, Mitchell arrived at the victim’s home and was trying to break in when she fled the residence.  The suspect chased her down and shot her before fleeing in a vehicle.

Officials with the Shreveport Police Department notified other area law enforcement agencies to be on the look out for Mitchell and just moments later, authorities spotted his vehicle traveling south on Interstate 49. Following a pursuit, Mitchell apparently shot himself and was later pronounced deceased. Troopers with the Louisiana State Police are investigating that incident.
