Two adults and six children were able to escape a mid-afternoon fire without injury.

Firefighters were called to the 2800 block of West Maple just after 3:45 and arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of the house.  At first, they believed that children might still be inside but they were quickly able to account for all of the occupants. It took them about 15 minutes to bring the fire under control.

One of the adult occupants has told firefighters that they had just returned home when one of the children told him the bedroom was on fire.  He went to the bedroom, saw flames and smoke, and quickly got everybody out of the house.

The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.  The house was heavily damaged.
