If you see lots of firefighters around downtown Shreveport the next couple of weekends, don't be alarmed. It's only a drill! The Shreveport Fire Department will conduct high-rise drills and rescue operations at the Lane Building on Marshall Street. These are scheduled over two weekends to minimize downtown disruptions. Exercises will be held this Saturday from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. -- and next Saturday from 9 a.m. til noon, and from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Among the skills and tasks firefighters will be evaluated on are ability to safely rescue victims, accuracy of equipment placement, and deploying a 60-pound "high-rise pack" to the highest accessible level of the building.
