Dodge has announced plans to suspend the sale of its most popular vehicles...because they are just too popular.

The motor company is temporarily halting orders on the “Hellcat” versions of the Challenger and Charger. The reason? Overwhelming demand. The 707 hp vehicles share the title of “most powerful American production car in history,” and are capable of top speeds in the range of 200 mph..

Dodge began sales of the Charger and Challenger "Hellcat" version late last year and has already received orders for twice as many as it planned to build in 2015. The shortage has led to 50 percent markups on the $60,000-plus by some dealer and Dodge wants to avoid the possibility of dealers taking deposits on cars they could take years to deliver.

There's no official word from Dodge, but industry insiders say it may be summer before the company gets caught up.
