Can You Create a Healthier School Lunch?

Do you think you could make your child’s school lunch healthier? Here’s a challenge for you…it’s the Year of the Healthy Child School Lunch Recipe Contest. It promotes the new USDA Food Guidance System, designed to fight obesity and improve the well-being of Americans. Caddo and Bossier Parish Public Schools have chosen four vegetable categories for the contest — broccoli, sweet potatoes, carrots and squash. Recipes may be an entree, side or other — such as a snack or bread. Winning recipes will be featured on public school cafeteria menus in both districts — and the creators will receive monetary awards. The deadline for submission is December 9th. You can find contest information and guidelines at www.yearofthehealthychild.com or www.lesfemmemystique.org.
