Bond is set at $1.6 million for a Dequincy man arrested in the rape, beating and robbery of a 94-year-old woman.
Police arrested 48-year-old Gabe McKeel Jr. overnight. McKeel has been booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center.

According to DeQuincy Police Chief Michael Suchanek they got the call around 11 p.m. Saturday. Suchanek said the victim's nephew went to check on her after she did not answer the phone and found her severely beaten. He then called 911 and police were dispatched.

The victim was taken to a local hospital where she gave a statement to police identifying her attacker as Gabe McKeel, Jr. It's not clear if it was forced entry, but according to police the victim said once inside McKeel armed himself with a knife.

Within an hour police arrested McKeel at his home. Chief Suchanek said McKeel did not resist arrest. Suchanek said McKeel has a lengthy criminal history. Judge Ware set bond at $1,600,000.

McKeel is a native of New Orleans and has been a resident of DeQuincy for the past 8 months.

Meanwhile the victim was transferred to Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. She is in serious condition but is stable.
