Louisiana is not at the bottom of the overall list, but we do score last in the country for our economy. We are ranked 25th for affordability. On education and health, the Bayou State is 41st. Our quality of life ranking is 46 and the safety ranking in Louisiana is 45.

Consumer Affairs ranked Texas dead for education and health. The affordability rate in Texas is a bit better at #41.

The data used by Consumer Affairs came from the U.S. Census, the Bureau of Economic Analysis, the Tax Foundation, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Zillow, the Agency for Healthcare Research and QualityWisevoter, The Bureau of Transportation Statistics, the CDC and the FBI.

California comes in dead last on this report. New Mexico was next to last.

At the top of this list is Utah.

Utah gets to honors because it has the nation’s highest affordability score. The report also says Utah has very low property taxes and a higher income than many other states.

In checking out the quality of life, Consumer Affairs looked at weather, quality of roads, and the percent of people who use public transit to commute.
