SHREVEPORT, LA – What are the worst cities in the country for mosquitoes? This list might surprise you. Shreveport does not make the list. In fact, only one Louisiana city was named.

Orkin puts together a list of the worst cities for mosquitoes and folks in Louisiana would probably take bets that we would have several cities on the list. But you’d lose that bet.

This report is based on how many people got mosquito treatments between April 2023 and March 2024. Basically, the more folks calling for help, the worse the mosquito problem. Even though the data was collected from 2023 to 2024, I doubt we’ll see much change in 2025.

The best way to keep mosquitoes at bay is to get your yard professionally treated, but you also have to make sure to get rid of standing water so the skeeters don’t return.

What Are the Top 5 Cities for Mosquito Troubles?

  1. Los Angeles, Calif.
  2. New York, N.Y.
  3. Chicago, Ill.
  4. Dallas, Texas
  5. Atlanta, Ga.

Houston checks in a #6. New Orleans is the only Louisiana city on the list and checks in at #40.

Austin and San Antonio are the other 2 Texas cities to make the list.

We are moving into the high season for mosquitoes which is typically in spring and summer. The recent heavy rains in Shreveport-Bossier will likely mean our problem with mosquitoes will probably get a bit worse.

These pests reproduce quickly, with mosquito larva reaching the adult stage in a matter of days or weeks.

Mosquitoes are considered the deadliest animal on earth, causing more than 600,000 malaria deaths across the globe every year.
