With all the rain we have had, we can only wonder if this means a bumper crop of mosquitoes this year. We are already hearing about a positive test for West Nile virus in mosquitoes in Dallas County Texas already this year. This has local officials concerned about the mosquito population here.

Have We Had a Positive West Nile Test in NW Louisiana?

Kelvin Samuel is Assistant Director of Animal Services and Mosquito Control for Caddo Parish. He says there have been no positive tests so far this year. But he is quite worried. He says the recent rains will leave lots of standing water and that attracts mosquitos. But he says he is quite worried about a possible mosquito problem this year. Samuel says Caddo Parish residents are encouraged to pick up granules that you can put out to kill mosquitoes. These granules are pet and human safe and will cause no harm to your pets or children. But they will kill mosquitos. You can pick these up at the Monty Street location.

Are the Trucks Spraying?

If you are seeing lots of mosquitoes in your neighborhood, you can request one of the trucks to come in and spray for the pesky bugs. Call Caddo Parish at 226-6624 or 965-9557 in Bossier Parish to get the trucks out in your area. You should also take precautions if you plan to spend time outdoors.
