Allen Francis has proven himself to be the best horseshoe thrower in the entire world on twenty five separate occasions and now he is here in North Louisiana trying to take that number to twenty six.

Francis is just one of the numerous competitors who are in the Monroe area for the 2022 World Horseshoe Pitching Tournament Championship at the Monroe Civic Center.

In an article from the Louisiana Radio Network, we learn that this tournament, which actually began yesterday, Monday, July 11, is bringing competitors from more than forty states and four foreign countries to compete through Saturday, July 23.

According to President of the National Horseshoe Pitchers, Gary Roberts, this tournament is somewhat like a big family reunion.  "We’ve developed all kinds of friendships and renew those friendship and we have great competition and it’s a great event for all of us.”

Roberts added that the winner will score a nice payday for the event taking home $3,000 and trophies. He continued by saying that the game of Horseshoes is special because competitors are never really out of the game. “In some sports like bowling if your opponents starts out with five straight strikes you can’t catch them but in horseshoes you can make a comeback and cancel their ringers and still win the game.”

Checking the tournament schedule at horseshoepitching.com you can see there are divisions for just about everyone of all ages including men, women, elders, seniors, junior and cadet divisions.
