The Commission for Women of Bossier City has made generous donations to benefit our local police and fire departments.

At this afternoon's city council meeting, a $3,000 check was presented to Kellie Abbott's non-profit organization Blue Forever, which provides QuikClot trauma kits to area law enforcement agencies. This donation will enable Abbott to purchase 40 kits, which will be distributed to the Bossier City Police Department, Bossier Sheriff's Office and City Marshal's Office.

Another $3,000 donation was handed over to Bossier City Fire Chief Brad Zagone to purchase smoke alarms for the department's smoke detector program. The agency had run out of alarms to install, absolutely free, to residents in need.

Women's Commission members Robin Harville and Meredith Johnson say the donations came from their annual Inspiring Women Week fundraiser, which this year paid tribute to first responders. In light of the recent tragedies in Baton Rouge and Dallas, residents really stepped up to provide additional help to our police and firefighters.
