Woman Scams Louisiana Auto Dealership Out of $100K in Cars
Law enforcement officials in a south Louisiana city are trying to find a woman they say used a fake check to purchase three vehicles worth $100K from an area auto dealership.
According to a number of reports, New Iberia Police say Shawntell Rena Romero of New Iberia is wanted for allegedly writing a fraudulent check to purchase the vehicles from a local dealer.
When the dealership attempted to deposit the check following the sale, it was returned as fraud.
New Iberia Police say that Romero may still be the area. It is also suspected that she may be driving one of the three vehicles involved in the check scam.
Warrants have been issued Romero's arrest on charges of monetary instrument abuse and three counts of theft of a motor vehicle.
The New Iberia car dealership involved in the theft has not been named.
