Woman From Viral HBO Clip About Shreveport Speaks Out [Video]
On Sunday night, HBO's Last Week Tonight with John Oliver took on Automation, and what it's meant for American jobs. Inside the episode, Oliver ranted about multiple items, including a sidetracked conversation about Shreveport.
During his mock-rant, he acted as though he was speaking to the city of Shreveport, and it's residents. He also positioned his take as a "pick me up" to the subject of the bit, a woman named Lisa Lee.
Lee appeared in a clip talking about how automation would possibly be taking her job. We spoke to Lee this afternoon about the clip, and she provided context for the original material. Lee told us that this video was shot in Longview, Texas for AT&T in the early 90s. The context of the original video for AT&T was about training, Lee didn't know that it would be used outside of that context in the future.
She told us that over the weekend, a representative from HBO called her to let her know the clip was being used.
Lee has stated that she is upset with HBO, and Oliver, over her inclusion in the show, and the context in which she was used. You can hear her comments in the video posted above, and we have the clip (WARNING, GRAPHIC LANGUAGE CONTAINED INSIDE THE HBO CLIP) of Oliver's show below:
