Woman Dies in Multi Car Crash in Shreveport
Shreveport Police Are investigating a traffic crash that left a pedestrian dead.
Officers responded to Interstate 20 East, just west of Monkhouse Drive on reports of a major accident. Officers arrived and learned that at least one female was dead at the scene. Two lanes of the interstate were blocked during the investigation.
SPD issued this statement:
Investigators learned that a motorcycle had reportedly been cut off by a vehicle while travelling Interstate 20 East, causing the motorcycle to crash. At least one pedestrian was reportedly standing near the crashed motorcycle. Traffic began slowing suddenly and a red Chevrolet truck driven by 46-year-old Jeffrey Clark of Maud, Texas was travelling east on Interstate 20 and rear ended a silver Dodge Challenger driven by 28-year-old Shayla Turner of Shreveport. Turner’s vehicle was then forced into a silver Nissan Altima driven by 34-year-old Tear Carter of Shreveport and Carter’s vehicle was forced off of the roadway and into the median. The red Chevy truck continued forward, striking another vehicle, a silver Cadillac driven by 50-year-old Amy Legate of Dallas, Texas. The driver of the motorcycle was transported to University Health with non-life-threatening injuries. Initial witness reports led officers to believe that a female passenger on board the motorcycle had been fatally injured. After speaking to all of the motorists, witnesses, and the motorcyclist investigators learned that there was no passenger on the motorcycle and that the woman killed in the tragic accident was a pedestrian that was standing in the median of the Interstate near the crashed motorcycle.
The identity of the victim will be determined by the coroner’s office.
