There's a story making its way around both show business and sports circles. And it's the kind of tale that even if it's not true, it ought to be.

An entertainment reporter recently asked legendary actor Kevin Costner on whom he based his TV character, mega-rancher John Dutton. According to the story, Costner didn't hesitate. "For the most part," he said, "John Dutton is Nick Saban."

Assuming that anecdote is true, Saban, the man who treats the world of college football like his own personal Yellowstone Ranch, strode into Captain Shreve High School Monday looking to land another top player to further cement his spot as the greatest coach of all time.

That player is Gators' star Kendrick Law.

Law, a senior at Shreve, is considered to be one of the most versatile players in the USA, spending time at wide receiver, running back and safety - and excelling at them all. In fact, the Shreve senior is so talented at so many aspects of the game that Sports Illustrated, in its ranking of top high school players, lists Law's position as "ATH," for "athlete."

"Kendrick Law is listed as an athlete, but he has been able to showcase his explosiveness on offense for Captain Shreve this season.

Standing at 5-foot-11 and weighing 200 pounds, Law has played both wide receiver and running back in high school. He is also a track and field runner, and boasts a sub-11-second 100-meter dash time. In his junior season, Law averaged 10 yards every time he touched the football."

While at Shreve, the Bama boss also spent time with Principal Ginger Gustavson, who said, according to Yahoo Sports, "“I was star struck. He has been so successful, and I’ve read a couple of his books. I’m an LSU, Saints and Louisiana fan, but anytime you can learn from the best, you take it.”

And what are the odds that Law will be wearing Alabama crimson next fall? Right now, it's a little early to tell, with schools like Texas, Notre Dame and yep, LSU still in the running. But on the other hand, it's tough to say no to John Dutton, uh...Nick Saban.
