A thick cloud of smoke covered I-20 Saturday night as Shreveport firefighters worked on two fires, just blocks from each other. Just after 8:30 Saturday night, they were called out to the 600 block of Euclid Street to find a vacant two-story apartment building fully involved with fire. A second alarm was called on that one, and it took a lot of manpower and water to extinguish it. While that was going on, another call came in at about 9:20 that a vacant three-story apartment building in the 700 block of Cotton Street was on fire. Crews arrived there to find flames coming from a second-story window in the back of the building. It was contained to a mattress in the involved room and was quickly extinguished. No injuries were reported from either fire, and investigators are still trying to determine what caused both.
