We pause today to honor law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty. May 15th is Peace Officer Memorial Day.

Typically, there is a public gathering in downtown Shreveport to recognize the fallen officers, but that can not happen this year. But you are encouraged to participate in a moment of silence at 11 a.m. today to remember each of these law enforcement officers and their heroism.

Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator urges residents across Northwest Louisiana to remember all of these men and women who have died protecting all of us. The Memorial is along the riverfront in downtown Shreveport. It is next to the Aquarium. It includes stone markers for officers killed going back to the 1800's. The Sheriff encourages you to visit the Memorial and teach your children about the sacrifices police officers, sheriff's deputies and state troopers make every day.

This year, a monument has been added to the local Memorial to honor fallen Shreveport Police Officer Chateri Payne. She was killed in January of 2019. She was gunned down by her estranged boyfriend. She was in uniform and was getting ready to report for duty to her overnight shift with SPD
