So, let's go back to early Sunday morning. It's Saturday night about 1:00 in the morning. Sunday morning, Uptown Bar in downtown Shreport. Not downtown, right? Well, it's downtown. It's it's it's a little uh south. Okay. Yeah. Cool. Down Marshall Street. Um this was a a graduation party. Is that is that what was that's why there were 18 to 21 year olds there? Um a high I mean a college graduation party for uh for his son. Yes. Okay. So the young people there of which he had a permit. He did have a permit. Um uh he followed the process. Uh he talking about the owner of the club. Owner of the club uh received a permit. Uh, everybody there was IDed and given a wristband to identify those that were under the age of 21. No one was under the age of 18. Correct. No one that I'm aware of. I believe everybody was was considered an adult um between um 18 and 20 as far as underage. Now then, these were college students. These were these were a lot of college students. a lot of his friends, uh, a lot of people that he attended college with, um, came down, uh, to celebrate with him, uh, for his graduation. But then, uh, allegedly somebody called the police and said there are underage kids in this bar. Is that what happened? Uh, yes. So, police came in. Um, they was walking around with flashlights. Um, the DJ asked, "Uh, who are y'all looking for?" Um because they were they were they were a little aggressive. Um the DJ kept repeating, "Who are y'all looking for?" Um I walked up to one of the officers. Um I identify who I was. Um and he said that we received a call saying there were underage people in this establishment. I said, "Okay." I said, "The owner is in the back um inside the food truck." He has a food truck uh on in uh inside the patio. And so I escorted the officers to the owner and then I allowed them to talk and I kind of stepped back and and kind of gave them their space. Once they finished talking, um the owner uh instructed the DJ to tell everybody who had a yellow gold bracelet um that they had to leave. And so uh he complied. Um he did exactly what the officer instructed him to do. Um and then all of the the yellow bracelet people um were escorted out through the courtyard um and then off of the premises. And this was at around 1:00 in the morning. This is about 1:00 in the morning. So they had been there all night then since earlier because the club didn't open until 10 p.m. Is that correct? That's correct. That's correct. So So they had been there all night then. And their party was in the patio area. Their party was in a patio area. Correct. And it started raining and that's why they came in. Is that accurate? That's why they came in. Um and also their event started well before 10:00. Um they just once 10:00 came, they didn't leave. Uh I don't know if he was aware that they didn't leave. Um his normal club does not open up until 10:00. It's a 10 to 2 club. So, I'm not sure if he wasn't aware that they didn't leave, but they remained on the premises inside. Um, when I arrived, I arrived maybe around midnight. Um, I was even unaware that there was a previous event. Um, I was unaware that there were underage people um at the time until the police uh arrived. Was there alcohol out on the patio? No. No. Uh, to my knowledge, nobody under the age was served alcohol. Hence, that's why they was giving a separate wristband. Um, all of the bartenders um understood on and so no bartenders to my knowledge served anybody that was uh under the age of 21. Let's get to the problem here. Um, you you saw the officer writing a summon is what you told me yesterday and I wrote it down. I saw the officer writing a summons. I asked if he had to write a summon. I asked if he could give a warning. I then asked if I could loop the chief in and that's when you called Chief Smith. Correct. Correct. Um everything was correct. Uh I asked the officer for me to uh uh call Chief Smith and and I want to say that small detail. Um I'm the type of person I'm never going to um intervene or tell any uh body of authority what to do or how to do their job. Um, so I made it clear that I asked for officer and said, "Is it okay that we reach out to Chief Smith?" Um, and he said, "Yeah, go ahead." Um, and so then I did uh call Chief Smith. Um, now honestly, Aaron, I didn't expect Chief to answer. Um, by this time it's about it's closer to 1:30 in the morning, so I did not expect Chief to answer. I expected him to be nice and tidy uh in his bed sleeping. Um, but he did answer the phone. Um, when he answered the phone, um, of course, you know, I'm pretty sure my number is saved in this phone, but I I still identified who I was to him. Um, and and I said, "Hey, chief, we have a situation." Um, I'm going to let um the officer on the scene kind of explain to what was going on. Um, because I I knew they had more in-depth knowledge than than what I had. And and so I didn't want Chief just taking it from me. I wanted him to hear directly from the officer. Um, so I passed my phone to the officer and uh um and I allowed them to to talk. Um, okay. Let me let me interrupt you right there because talked to the chief. The the the police department has put out a statement saying the chief did not talk to the officer. You handed your phone to the officer. The chief was on the other end of the line. Right. That's correct. So their statement is incorrect. I have not seen their statement, so I I can't speak to that. But do you know what the chief said to the officer? I do not. So the quotes of him saying, "Let it go. Don't worry about it." Uh, you don't know anything about that? No. Because the the chief was not on speaker phone. Um, so the officer was talking to him directly. Um, from my understanding, the officer was was explaining to him what was going on. And what happened after that? Did they issue a summon? Did they issue a warning? What happened? Um, after that, the officer indicated that they were going to uh issue a warning. And that's what happened. That's what happened. A written warning. Uh, I don't know if it was written um or or verbal. Um, I didn't see any officers uh uh walk back into the building. Um, I'm not sure uh who reached out to to the bar owner, Mr. Williams. Um, and and almost let me and let me say this also too. Mr. Williams did not ask me to uh uh I was literally getting ready to leave and I saw this taking place and so uh I asked on my own. Uh Mr. Williams was was not standing beside me. Um he was in another part of the venue again back on the patio back into the food truck. Um at the time he had no idea any of this was going on. Why did you get involved Allan? Why did you interject yourself? Great question and I and I've been getting this question a lot. Um my position as a council person if if I'm able to help um I believe that's part of my job. Uh help somebody who might be breaking the law. Well well honestly Aaron um I was there um I felt like and I know Ryan Williams I felt like he's a good business person. I didn't feel like he did anything. Um, honestly and transparent, I didn't know there was another event. I didn't know that he even had a permit. Um, but reading comments on Facebook, these underage people did not sneak in. Um, nobody did not forget to check ID. It It wasn't that he wasn't running his business. Well, this was an advertised event. He wanted those individuals there. He invited those individuals there. Um, and they were wristbands. They were given proper wristbands. Um, I I've experienced places in other parts of the country where 18 to 20 20 are allowed to party with 21 and up because they're they quote they have laws that said this is a college town. And so I I'm familiar with that. Um, I felt like this was a one-time thing. Um, I felt like this was because his son was graduating. This was not a routine thing. So given the circumstances being on the scene at the time, um, and and I'm saying I know Ryan, the officers there may not know him. They may not know his character. And so I wanted to let them know that, hey, this is a good guy. This is this is not something that happens. Um, to my knowledge, his establishment has never been in trouble before uh as far as breaking or violating the law. And so I wanted to offer that. Um, I wanted to ask for uh any type of courtesy or or or consideration, but I still respect the offer and decision. I still [clears throat] allow them to say, "Hey, um, we will consider that or not consider that." Um, that's all I was asking. Shreport City Councilman Alan Jackson, looking back on it now, do you do you think u maybe I could have handled this differently? Do you regret calling the chief and getting him involved? Um, I would say yes. Um, because in my politics, I'm I'm I can always handle um any decisions that I make. Um, I I'm I'm still supportive of the decision that I've made, but I do not like getting other people involved. I I do not like other people having to to answer um for any any situation that I put them in. So, I I do apologize for for putting teeth in a in a in a tight squeeze. Um, and in retrospect, um, I would have allowed just things just to kind of play out, uh, and then just, you know, deal with them at a at a at a at a later date. Um, I I think that would have been the best move in retrospect. Um, but in the moment, um, I I walked up to the officer and asked them to consider, you know, the facts. I asked him to for for me to, you know, I didn't ask them, but I was explaining who Ryan Williams is. And I believe that this was a one-time thing. I I didn't feel like this would warrant uh a a summon at this particular moment. Um because this bar does not have a habit of allowing underage people in it. It was an awesome week weekend. We had a or week I don't remember. We had a great time and and Mark came in and we had been at the beach all day and he came in the house and threw his towel down. He goes and when he got in the house and the air conditioning and everything, he goes, "Oh, fresh air." [laughter] In the house. In the house. Oh, wow. Wow. Not a beach person. Oh, man. Man, he's he's in his 30s now and he lives in LA. He's a He's a writer. He's He was one of the writers of uh that uh show, the Autistic Doctor. What was that called? Yeah, the ABC show. Streetport business owner Tim Huck joining us. Tim, good morning. Good morning. Thank you for for jumping on with us. You own nightclubs. You ma'am know the rules. You know the laws. You and I have spoken. You don't think you think this nightclub owner was given special treatment. Explain why. Without a doubt he was given special treatment. Well, we're going to start out with people keep talking about a permit. There is no such permit that allows a club, a bar to have under 21 in their establishment ever for any reason whatsoever. What about a permit for the patio area that he has? The patio area is still on their property. They still have a liquor license that is a bar license, not a restaurant license. So underage can't even be on that patio with a permit. There is no permit in the city of Shreport currently that allows under 21 to be on that establishment. So, if they show me a permit, it would be something they shouldn't have done. No, they can show you a special events permit. The permit does the permit would allow them to have enhanced sound system on the patio. The permit would not allow under the age of 21 to be on the patio or on the premises at all. So, there's no permit that exists in the city of Shreport. I can't go get a permit to allow underage in my establishment, even if I'm closed. If I take every bit of liquor out of my building, I still can't have a permit to have someone under the age of 21 in there because it doesn't exist in the city of Shreport. So, they shouldn't have been there at all. They should have never been there at all in the first place. Secondly, they if they would have walked in one of my establishments, there's no way the chief says give them a warning. The chief says take him to jail. I would be on the cover of the paper as other business owners in town have had happened to them. Now, wait. The business owner would be arrested, not just cited. Absolutely. Uh 75 underage people, 75 violations of the law. 80 violations of the law. Absolutely. They'd have been arrested. Hm. Why do you think that didn't happen here? Um has a lot to do with race. Um what to do with privilege? Uh selective enforcing. Why? Um, again, I just pointed that out. It's going to have to do with the race. Um, if if you look at another business owner who had something very similar. Now, we can say they were drinking and they weren't drinking. The officers never did a full investigation the people were drinking or not. However, fortunately, they're still capable of it. One is the ticket should have been a one account for each person under the age of 21 in the establishment. So if there were 75 people, it should have been 75 counts. Two is they should have checked to see if any more drinking because it should have been also a contributed delinquency of uh underage uh charge, but they can still go pull all the video. Uh Uptown Lounge is required to keep video for 30 days and provide it to law enforcement at any time. There's body camera footage of the of the underage leaving the establishment uh during the incident. So they can still pull video and actually do a full investigation, really do their job if they story. But um had this never broke a mama bear, then you wouldn't even be talking about it today and there would have never been a citation written. If they'd written a citation then the the morning of we it wouldn't be a story either. The bar was issued a citation. We move on. It's a non-issue. Um I mean, you know, is it is something wrong? Absolutely. Did something happen? Absolutely. Um would he have the opportunity to fix that and not have those problems again? Absolutely. But yeah, if they if they issue a citation, unfortunately, no one in this industry has not broken that rule, whether [snorts] it be intentional or unintentional. Um but you know, anyone else gets a citation and gets their day in court. You know, 18 to 21 year olds. Um we've been there. If I'm in a club and I have a yellow wristband that says I'm not supposed to drink, I might find a way to get that wristband off. Do you feel pretty confident that some of those underage people might have been drinking? I I Well, you're asking for speculation. That's that's that's I I will agree that that would definitely be speculation. So, I'll give you that. However, um there's a reason why. And look, I'm okay with Allan mentioned, you know, in other cities and other markets you can put on a wristband, and he's correct. He's 100% correct. So Allan, you are a legislator. You make law. Change the law. But but you know, you're a legislator. You make law. You should at least know the law that is on the books. All these people talking about especially Ben's permit. Especially Ben's permit doesn't allow him to have under 21 in his establishment. And you would think that the chief of police who enforces the law and Allan Jackson who makes law would actually know the law. I'm looking at the special events permit now and it doesn't say anything about age that I'm I'm I'm looking at it on the fly, but I'll have to look at it in more detail. But it just says 300 people would be allowed and the hours and all that. But you're telling me that this special event permit does not allow for anyone under 21. It No. If you had a special events permit in the Festival Plaza, you can have all ages in there. A special events permit does not allow under 21 to be in a bar, in a nightclub, in an establishment that's primary source of income is alcohol. I can get a special events permit for XYZ uh uh you know, 200 uh Lake Street and throw a party there with a special events permit and all ages can be there. If if you have a liquor license, your bar you can only have 21 and up in there. Interesting. Special events permit strictly allows him to have an enhanced sound system outside because he doesn't have a sound permit after that whole noise ordinance deal that I've been on the station about many times. Yeah. Yeah, we remember the noise ordinance. Oh boy. No. Well, that's what the special events permit circumvents is the noise ordinance for that time frame. Are they still hiding things right now or do you think the police department is still hiding things right now? Well, again, you're asking about speculation. That's what I do. Well, well, I'm not ask You're not asking about speculation because we already know for sure that they're that they're hiding their mention of a special events permit that that that was that would not allow for what happened to happen. They're mentioning that they went and wrote tickets that they called Vice right away. The tickets were wrote a couple days later after the story was broke. And I'm gonna still bet that they wrote one citation for one count when they should have been the count for every single person that was underage in there. Tim Huck, appreciate your time. Ah, and so we've been they came to the Horseshoe years ago. when we went to that show and and uh I think another time and I've seen them I've seen them in Dallas and um anyway so this was the they were just here at the municipal and I love going to the municipal it's like it the municipal auditorium and the strand you can just feel oh the history yeah no doubt when you go into those buildings love, love, love going. Uh, and so we were we were at the show at the at Chicago and it was at the municipal and of course they have merch booths set up out out in the front or or a a a merchandise booth and and my sister goes, "This will probably be the last time, you know, that we'll see them." So, let let's get a t-shirt, right? And I was like, "Okay." Cuz I haven't bought like a I haven't bought a concert t-shirt in I couldn't tell you how long. Me, too. The same. Because they're 85 freaking dollars. I When When did that happen? And this is a promo weight t-shirt. This is not a nice heavy Right. Exactly. [laughter] This is one that after eight washings, it's going to be a rag. And and then when I looked up, we were at the show and I kept going, "Okay, that's not Robert Lamb on keyboards. That's that's not I thought he was going to at least be there. He just retired like last month." Mhm. As did Panka, the trombone player, and I couldn't tell if that guy was Panka on stage or not. At first, I was trying to figure out because we were kind of far back. And then I I determined the only original member was the trumpet player Loften. That was the last one. Right. Right. Everybody else was was re replacements. And and and I I and at first I I don't know. I have mixed feelings on this because at what point does it become a tribute band? Uh, you know, there's no once once the trumpet player retires, no original. There's no original members, but they have the name Chicago. Yeah. The the band. And I guess they benefit from that because they get the money. We own it. Oh, sure. Yeah. So, I guess they'll just keep touring even though there are no original members left. But I wonder if the original members, if they're not alive, do their descendants have to sign off saying, "Yeah, we'll let you keep using the name." I wonder if they get benefits, too. I'm curious how how that works. The Chicago documentary that I watched was a long that was even done 20 or so years ago. Oh, goodness. And like Terry Cath's widow was was on there and she was talking about but she didn't talk about I don't remember how that works cuz he was instrumental in the early years. Yes. And I remember I tal I was talking to a friend of mine. How are you guys? Well, we're doing great. Thank you. Uh final uh final game tomorrow night. Uh what's your assessment of the season? How did it go? Well, we had our ups and downs. You know, I think I was in the studio 6 months ago when we kind of announced this thing and went public. And I appreciate all your support, Aaron and Mike. And uh uh it it's been ups and downs, but you know, we we're finishing the season and it's on a high high note. Uh the only the only low point is we didn't have enough wins to make the playoffs. So that's a little unfortunate, but normal for a first team a first expansion team in a league like this. So that's where we're at. And attendance, how was attendance as an average throughout the course of the year? You know, we did we did pretty good. We averaged around 2,000 um each game. We had seven games. So two non-league games and five league games. So we were between 15 to 20,000 uh total. Um, not one person said they didn't love didn't love the experience, the game experience. Um, you know, we were over at Brookshire Grocery Arena in Boer City. Um, we uh were really pleased with our experience there and uh what we did this this last six months preparing for the season. For people who haven't taken a game in, tomorrow's the last chance for this year. Uh, what times the game start? What what do you need to tell them? How exciting is this going to be? It's going to be crazy. So, the Omaha Beef, who's been around over 20 years, they're in Omaha, Nebraska. Uh they're coming back down. We've uh we've played them twice. We went up there and played them and then they're coming back down. Um we could upset their playoff chances by by an upset win. Uh they they they uh they come with a team of 21 very professional football players and a great staff and a great uh pedigree. Um and and we're going to match them with with the grit of uh our players from the architects, our organic coaches. Um everybody that's jumped on board this to help, including um our big halftime show is the crew of Gemini. So the crew of Gemini has set up a parade. Uh fairway carts in mind has has given us a golf cart. Chevy Land's given us electric vehicle, electric truck. We're going to be uh Patrick um at at Crew of Gemini's got 30 or 40 uh crew members that have decorated some many floats and we're going to have a Marty Gro parade for everybody there. Our Louisiana Saturday night. Wow, that's cool. So, what are you looking for for next year? Obviously, you want to come back? You want to bring it back and and grow this organization? You hopeful you'll continue it? I uh got a three-year contract. Uh we talked about that. Um I'm I'm committed to do it right. That's one thing that that [clears throat] I did do and I accomplished. Um uh we had, you know, a terrible experience last year on multiple different fronts and I I didn't want to give it up. So I said and dedicated the entire staff and players and everyone involved um just do it right and be a positive impact to the kids, the community, and football in general. And we we accomplished that. So our win record's not the best, but uh wins and losses is not it's not it's not always that. It's how you play the game. We play the game right. So, uh, we're excited about tomorrow night 7:05. Uh, we got a big pregame with a lot of activities. We're doing a silent auction, a live auction of jerseys. We have a, uh, big storage building giveaway that everyone's registered for all the games. Um, sports commission has helped us with some ticket vouchers for for youth that are out of school that are involved in summer sports to get to the game. Uh, it's just going to be exciting environment. So, we're we're really pleased to finish off a strong year and look at what we need to do. um to bring this product and service uh in the architecture 2027. Now, is there some place people can get tickets beforehand? Any locations around town? We are selling group tickets 50 or more at our uh merch store uh in the boardwalk today. Uh the board uh the box office uh at Brookers Grocery Arena opens this afternoon and at 1:00 on Saturday. and then they can go on to the uh wonderful ticket master and um assess their tickets through uh the automated system. There is some service fees involved in that, but what I was able to do this last game is make every ticket $20 for our price. Nice. So, you buy a $20 ticket and those t those tickets were gauged this last year, but what we were able to do this year is um not have to worry about the seating and where everybody would be. Everybody's going to have assigned seatings, but all tickets that you bought were $20. So that's going to bring a bring a pretty good crowd. But now lawmakers have a bill that would prohibit retail businesses from charging search charges. Wow. when customers use debit cards. It's US bill Senate bill, not US, state uh Senate Bill 254 and it uh retail businesses would be prohibited from charging a card holder a sir charge if the card holder uses a debit card to purchase goods of service. Then they can even be fined up to $500. So how does that how is that going to work? What I don't understand is some please please a lawmaker text me who knows more about this if you don't mind because I know there are a lot of places that they ask you is that cash or card. Mhm. Oh yes. And if you ask if you tell them cash it's a different price. So I would say these businesses are going to say it's not a fee. I just lower my price if you're paying me cash. I think that's how they're going to get around it. That's how they're going to get around it. Here's the cost. Oh, you're paying cash. Oh, we're going to we're going to give you a discount now. We're not going to add a sir charge, we're going to give a discount. Cuz I know um when I go to the nail salon I go to, if you pay cash, you pay less. If you pay them cash, you pay them less. [laughter] But they do say in the bill that businesses can continue charging fees for credit card purchases. [laughter] So if you use a credit card, wait, what? As opposed to a debit card. Because the money goes right away into their account from mine. Credit card takes a day or two to process. So, they're getting their money later than they norm I guess. Uh, I don't understand why they're not already open, [clears throat] but [laughter] we'll get that answered now because Spar director Shelley Regel and Rock Solid I'm going to say director Shelley McMillan, head cheese in studio with us. Shelley and Shelley Double Trouble. Yeah. Good morning, ladies. Good morning. Good morning. Thanks for coming out. Okay. When when do pools open? What's the schedule? Shelley Regel, let's start with you. So, we open our first set on June the 9th, next Tuesday, um, a week from Tuesday, that will be David Reigns, Quirby's, and Bill Cochrell. Okay. And then later this month in June, later in June, the 29th, we open the other two, which is Southern Hills and Airport. Airport. Thank you. So, why why is it such a late year? Oh my goodness. Okay. I knew that was coming. Yeah. [laughter] So we after last swim season, we began the renovations on all the pools. Get real close to that, Mike. Sorry. And so the last two were Southern Hills and Airport Park to start. And just the amount of renovations that it took, it was longer than a year. And since they didn't get started till after, you know, we received funding for those through the bond issue. And it just took some time to get them started. And but we're still So they're still not quite finished, right? Okay. If you go out to airport, you'll see there's still decking that needs to be poured. And if you can imagine chipping away, you have a daughter who swam competition. So, you know how long Southern Hills is. You know, every bit of that plaster has been had to be chipped away by hand. They're re, you know, retiling it, re plastering, and there's been a lot of work going on. Brand new slide out there at Southern Hills. So, lots of work going on. Southern Hills. Is that the the uh the old uh cost pool? No, this is the big one on Bert Coons at the park there on Bert Coons. Southern Hills Park. It's a big Southern Hills Park. Okay. Okay. And it and it's a it's the one that stays open through Labor Day typically. Right. Shelley McMillan, you're you run the pools for the city of Shreport in kind of a cooperative endeavor agreement. You've also taken on Mike Wood Pool in Boer. Um, how are we doing for staffing? Fantastic. Okay, this is uh more staff than I can remember having in previous years. We've always had enough staff. Um, but this year kids are coming out of the woodwork and we're just it's been fantastic. We started our training with them last week and we've lifeguard certified about 30 people and just it's been fantastic. Is it is it still too late? Is it too late to get on? Not at all. For somebody and you can train them. Absolutely. We have two more lifeguard courses coming up. So if I come out, you can train me. I can be a lifeguard. Well, you've got to be able to swim. Mike, [laughter] where do you think my daughter got? Uh Shelley Reagel, what are the the hours for the pools and um the the plan for doing swim lessons? There's more. When we talk about the hours, people go, "Why only five or six hours a day?" We do a lot of things in the morning time, too. So, the pools will open at 1:00. And Shel and I discussed this. We're going to stay open until 7 this year. We had closed in the past at 6, but we decided that if you're a parent and you're running home and trying to get your child by 6:00, you're not going to have enough time to swim. So, we're staying open until 7:00, 1 to 7, Tuesday through Sunday. We close on Monday for maintenance and upkeep when we can really do some deep cleaning during that time. But in the morning times, we do a lot of water aerobics. They teach lessons. And we also teach our children in our wreck programs to swim during those times. And the fee to swim this year. $2.50. $ 250. And that's for every or that's for Can you Can you buy like a summer pass? You can't. Not yet. Okay. Not yet. Okay. We're not We're not that techy yet. Okay. Gotcha. [laughter] And each pool. What are the restrictions in terms of the age kids can be where they can be dropped off and left? You if you are under 13, you must have an adult with you. Okay. Gotcha. Is there any kind of test to to make sure the kids can swim or wristbands that they wear if they not not able to swim? So, it's really important at Rock Solid that we build relationships with these patrons. And so, they'll come in at the beginning of the summer, have to do a swim test. Uh if they pass the swim test, they'll initially uh we'll we'll take their name um get to know them over the summer. That way, they don't have to test every time. So, so just a kid coming to the pool, they have to take a swim test. Absolutely. Mhm. Wow, that's impressive. The other thing that all of our swim swimming locations have are life jackets, too. Okay. For in every shape and size, so that no matter who comes, if you're not a experienced swimmer, we'll make sure that you're going to be safe. Shelley Wrangler, let me ask you this because when we were talking with the folks in Boer, they were saying that a lot of municipalities are getting out of the swimming pool business because it is so costly. Shrimport has made a commitment, a huge commitment. Do you think this is for the long term for Shrefport? Well, I certainly hope it's for the long term. And the citizens spoke when they passed the bond issue to um allow us to do these renovations. So, it says that they are truly interested in still having swimming pools and they're also interested in making sure our children in our communities can swim. And I think that's why they think the pools are important. One of the things that's happened in some of the pools is we've gone from really deep to a pretty consistent depth, which gives us more room to do more lessons, more aerobics, more things like that. And it also gives children who weren't as comfortable swimming more places to play and be on swim lessons. Shelley McMillan, how many kids are you hoping to to to teach this summer? What's the hope the goal? Uh the goal in Shreport is five to 600. Um we'll we'll certainly do all of our spar wreck kids and then we'll get a few sponsors to provide lessons for organizations like community renewal and nonprofits like that. We used to have a big um bond uh grant that we got. That's not the same amount of money is not coming in anymore, is it? No. The organization that did that um the the gentleman actually passed away a few years ago and so that took that funding with it. Okay. Are there scholarship programs for kids who may not be able to afford lessons to get some? You're going to be able to have that available for some? Absolutely. We'll we'll probably do about 100 to 200 outside of our spar wreck kids. Okay. I mean, it's huge. Yes, it is big. And David Reigns has one just like that. Southern Hills. We'll have a new slide. If you hadn't slid at Southern Hills in a long time, it had gotten to where we had had it refiberglass. We had done everything we could to hold it together, but it was really time. So, we're excited about the new slide there. airport's getting one of those also. And I mean, kids love those. A week from Tuesday, they open up. Let me Can we change gears for just a minute because I want to talk about question because tonight there's been some complaints about the depth of the pools has changed. They used to be deeper, but that was you you made the depth of the pools I think 5T or so. It's more kids can enjoy the whole pool. Isn't that Wasn't that the goal? Yes. And the safety. Okay. for it to be more family, children friendly, more activities. I think as Shel told you when we were at break, there were places where they just dropped off and it was really limiting the amount of space where children could play and where we could teach she can now enlarge the her lessons or use the whole pool. Well, we're very excited about tonight. We're kicking off Shreport's America 250. About 6:15, we will announce all the activities that are going to happen in Shreport from now till the end of the year. We'll have a lot of our partners there like the Revel, um the Independence Bowl, Shrek, all of those organizations are turning 50 years old this year, which is a really, you know, that's you can attribute that to our community. Sure. And how we come together as a community. 5:00 the line dancing starts. You don't want to miss that. I hear I hear [laughter] maybe even the mayor is going to be out there line dancing. I'm hearing um so you don't want to miss that. At 5:30, a band will start. It's a band made up of former um it's Opasum. Where they said family friendly, so we had to be careful. [laughter] Oh, and there's You're missing out. I I know there's all kinds of family fun activities. We have our LED 9-hole putt putt set up in one of the buildings down there. First 500 children get a free popsicle. And we're not going to check your ID, so if you're a child at heart, you'll probably get one, too. [laughter] And there'll be drink specials, food specials, music. There's all SPAR has all kinds of games set up for the children. So, you know, bring your children, let them run their energy, watch the We have a laser show. We haven't had a big laser show in Shreport in a long time. Got to preview that a little bit last night. We thought we'd start about 8:15, but it's we think we want it to be darker. you and and Mayor Arseno with a couple of laser pointers on on a whiteboard. No, it's a real laser show. Things. So, we hope that y'all come out. And the bridge is going to be lit up, too, for red, white, and blue, right? Yeah. The bridge is going to be busy because it's going to be red, white, and blue. Then we'll take a break and have a gender reveal on the bridge. Oh, cool. And then we'll go back to red, white, and blue. So, it's a busy night on the red on the bridge also. Oh my goodness. It's incredible. I had to get lo a trailer and load it up onto a trailer. And you're bringing it to her in. So, I'm I'm taking this and a couple other doghouses that have heaters in them. I mean, these are nice. Very cool. So, I have to take him over. First of all, why did y'all drop anything you had on your website about the incident downtown with Allan Jackson and the nightclub? Not only did you not talk about it today, but you also scrubbed it from your website. As I said earlier, I'm just asking a question. Still on the website, my buddy. Still there. Um, first of all, we didn't really talk about it much today because we kind of we talked a lot about it yesterday and there's really no new, right? There's no new developments. There's nothing new about the story, right? Um, uh, Alan Jackson probably should not have gotten involved and he admitted that and he said I that was probably not the best move. Should have just stayed out of it and I appreciated him saying that. So that's why we haven't really talked about it today. It's not we're we're not hiding anything. We haven't scrubbed anything from our website. In fact, if you go to uh 710.com, it's one of the first stories that comes up on the what we call the dynamic lead right there at the big top. And now I do I do want to tell you that I did invite Chief Smith to come on and tell his side of the story and asked him to come on today. and if he had agreed, we would have made a spot for him. Um, and I got a response from his office yesterday saying, "I apologize, but Chief Smith already had prior plans and will be unable to attend. We appreciate the invitation." Now, is the chief going to speak about this later? Is it going to come up during a city council meeting? I've had many city council members text me and they they're not done with this. they they think that maybe there needs to be further investigation on this and they may want to call in another agency to look into it. Um I think part of the problem is when people feel like there was a cover up or think there you're hiding something, right? They want something done. I think if we had all come out right away and said here's what happened. We should have done it differently. I shouldn't have shouldn't have picked up the call from Alan Jackson or whatever. Um or I shouldn't have talked to the officer. Let the officers follow through on the law. Let the officers make up their mind. Underage um young adults. There weren't children. I'm not going to say children. There were 18 to 21 roughly. That's what they're claiming. Yes. Um shouldn't have been in the nightclub to begin with. Right. Not in the courtyard. Tim Huck said not even at the courtyard that's on the property. Right. And that and that h the permit that they got that they keep referring to. The permit was for closing the street because they were having a party of 300 people and the permit was to close the street down. That that is city property. The permit was not to allow young people in a bar. You can't get such a permit. It doesn't exist. This is no such permit. Tim Huck was right about that. There's no such permit to allow those kids on that patio. And he made an interesting point. He said, "If I take all the alcohol out of my club and and and it's closed, still can't have minors in that in that building." If he wanted to have a graduation party for his kid in his club that he owns, pull out all the alcohol, he can't have a private party for his kid. He's not allowed to, right? Because that that building is licensed for alcohol sales. And the owner of this establishment should have known that. um and didn't think he'd get caught or perhaps didn't know that. I'm not sure what's what what I believe, but again, a lot of the problem with this was keeping it quiet, not coming out and saying from jump. Well, and some are saying other business owners have gotten arrested. Oh, yeah. Absolutely. This one didn't. So, why? What happened? Blah, blah. You bet. All right.
