The stalled construction of a hotel on East 70th Street in Shreveport has city leaders asking questions about what's going on.
Paul Diamond with the financing company Greenlake appeared before the Shreveport City Council to talk about the delays. He says some "bad actors" were involved in the construction phase and that is the primary reason for the problems.
Work has stopped for the time being, but Diamond is hopeful things could get moving soon.
This project has been causing headaches for city leaders and businesses in the area for years. It was purchased back in 2020 with plans to build a double-branded hotel combining the SpringHill Suites and TownePlace Suites brands. Both of these hotels are Marriot brands.
Diamond told the council the owner has borrowed about 90 million dollars to get the new hotel built, but ran into one problem after another with the contractors.

If you drive by the complex today, it looks like it's close to being complete. But Diamond says there is still about 20% of the work yet to be done. But councilman Grayson Boucher says the grass is overgrown and the property is in disrepair. He says property standards will now be stepping up to issue citations for problems at the site.
Diamond says the owner is hoping to get more financing in place in the next two months to get this work back up and going. He did say they would take care of cutting the grass as soon as possible.
