A local man has been arrested by Shreveport Police after a concerned citizen notified authorities of a burglary in progress.

At approximately 9:51 p.m. on May 21, 2011, Shreveport Police patrol officers responded to a call from a concerned citizen who reported that a male suspect had been seen breaking into a vacant residence in the 2900 block of Grassmere Street.

Upon arrival, investigating officers spotted the suspect, later identified as 42 year old Victor McCoy, walking out of a rear door of the home.

As officers attempted to contact McCoy, he fled from them on foot in an apparent attempt to evade capture.  After a short foot pursuit, officers locate him hiding in a bush in the 2900 block of Sunnybrook Street and took him into custody.

Victor McCoy, of the 7400 block of Glenleaf Road in Shreveport, was subsequently booked into the Shreveport City Jail on one count each of resisting an officer and simple burglary.  Detectives will be following up on this arrest to determine if McCoy is responsible for other similar crimes.

Anyone with any information regarding this or any other burglary is urged to call Shreveport Police detectives at 318-673-6985 or Shreveport-Caddo Parish Crime Stoppers at 318-673-7373.
