A tragedy outside of Monroe overnight has left two people dead, critically injuring another.

Louisiana State Police authorities killed a gunman who held three hostages in Tensas Bank in St. Joseph after the gunman shot two of the hostages.

The unidentified man was not in the bank to rob it, but to vent and display his anger.

Police entered the bank just after midnight after bringing in a negotiator and standing off with the gunman for hours.  Authorities then shot and killed the suspect.

The gunman had written a letter about what he had planned to do.  Authorities say he was mentally unstable.

One of the two shot hostages died, the other was critically injured.  The third hostage was able to escape unharmed.
