Trial Date Set for Four Shreveport Police Officers
The four Shreveport police officers accused in the death of Tommie McGlothin Jr. are set for trial on June 13. D'Marea Johnson, Treona McCarter, Brian Ross and James LeClare are charged with malfeasance in office and negligence homicide in connection with the April 2020 death of McGlothen who died in police custody after fighting with the officers. All 4 officers have waived their right to a jury trial....so their cases will be heard by a local judge.
March 8 has been set for an argument hearing, while the bench trial will take place June 13.
McGlothen had a history of mental problems and had prior encounters with police on the same day. McGlothen was involved in a struggle with police and was pepper sprayed and tazed. He was also left unattended in the back of a patrol car for more than half an hour before anyone called for medical help.
He was found unresponsive and was pronounced dead a short time later at the hospital.
