A recent study by the statistics portal, Statista, shows that nearly half of Americans don't have any money saved "for a rainy day." In fact, says Statista, nearly two out of three people could be described as living paycheck-to-paycheck.

According to the study, 45% of Americans don't have as much as a dime in savings. And even for those with money put away, the numbers are hardly more encouraging. 24% of Americans have less than $1,000 in savings. 12% have between $1,000 and $4,999. A mere 5% of folks have between $5,000 and &9,999 and another 5% are in the $10,000 to $19,999 category.

4% of savers have $20,000 to $49,000 socked away and, slightly more, 6% of Americans have more than $50,000 set aside.

Statista's numbers are recent, compiled on November 25 and 26 of this year by GOBankingRates.
