The Marshall, Texas 'Wonderland of Lights' will happen again this year.

The Marshall Tourist Bureau was not able to provide funding for the event this year and that had lots of folks worried about keeping the lights on for the holidays. Marshall Mayor Ed Smith tells KEEL News town leaders came up with a plan to provide the funding.

"Our city voted to allocate about 50,000 dollars of our hotel occupancy tax funds which are funds that can only be spent for tourism events so it doesn't take away from our general fund. We are going to allocate a portion of that for the 'Wonderland of Lights' this year."

The Marshall Downtown Development Corporation will sponsor and take on the organization of the event this year.
Mayor Smith adds: "We are going to try to get 'Wonderland of Lights' back to the basics. We're going to take it away from the commercial environment that it kind of had over the last two years and get back to more volunteers, more participation from organizations around the community."

Smith says the ice skating rink will be back again this year.
