Shreveport Public Assembly & Recreation's Atletics Department is hosting the Great Amazing Race, which is set for this Friday. It's pattterned after the popular television show "The Amazing Race," where teams of two race around a one-mile cross-country course that includes up to eight fun-filled stations. Clue cards at each station direct the team to perform a task -- like a game, relay or obstacle course. The race is for everyone, from adults to young kids, and teams consist of adult/kid or kid/kid duos. At least one participant must be a student in grades K through 12. Teams can choose the recreation race, if they want to walk or jog, or the competitive race for those who prefer to jog or run. Every participant who crosses the finish line gets a certificate of accomplishment. Top winners of the competitive event get the opportunity to move to the national competition...and a chance to win $2,000.

The registration fee is $40 per team...BUT...if you want a free pass, SPAR's Teneisha McKinney tells me there are a FEW left. You will have to register online, though. Visit www.greatamazingrace.com, click on "SHREVEPORT" and follow the links. Once you complete the registration form, enter "PARKS & RED" in the comment box. If you need more info, just call the event director at 513-518-0528.
