Kick Butts Day is a national day of activism that empowers youth to speak up and take action against Big Tobacco at hundreds of events from coast to coast.

The 17th annual Kick Butts Day will be observed by Southern University Ag Center’s Communities of Color and CHRISTUS Health Shreveport-Bossier on Thursday, March 22, 2012.   The Communities of Color Network and CHRISTUS Health will host a health fair/block party in downtown Shreveport from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2012.  CHRISTUS Health will offer lung age screenings and Ocean Dental will offer free oral cancer screenings.

The event is free and open to the public, particularly youth.   There will be free food, drinks, free entertainment and lots of fun!   In Louisiana, 19.4% of all high school students currently smoke, and an additional 6,700 youth will become new smokers each year.   Additionally, the state ranks number 2 as the largest percentage of African-American smokers.
