All city councilmembers and the Mayor have been invited to this get together. They will hear from the folks at Blue Line Solutions who install cameras in communities across the country. The tickets are issued in the mail and Blue Line is responsible for collections. We asked city officials who is spearheading this effort and were told the company reached out to the city to make a pitch.

Bossier City Councilman Brian Hammons tells KEEL News he is not in favor of this idea, but will listen to the presentation.

Problems with Blue Line Solutions in Shreveport

There have been several complaints about the speed zone program in Shreveport. Ginger Marks got a photo ticket and was able to prove it was wrong and was the result of faulty equipment. She says she tried to find out who installed the equipment and who calibrated it and who maintains it. But she says "the implementation of this program violates the ordinance that was passed to create the program." She says the components are to be properly calibrated and those records should be maintained by the Police Chief and kept by the police department. But she says that is not happening.

She also says the Shreveport ordinance says an individual will be available to answer within a reasonable time, but that is not happening.

Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux says he met with Chief Wayne Smith and will "likely have some changes to the operation which is is currently under review."

Speed Cameras in Louisiana

Louisiana has also installed the speed cameras on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge and if you are caught speeding on the bridge, you will get a ticket in the mail.

Shreveport is not the only city with speed zone cameras. New Orleans has the speed cameras in school zones as well. The Blue Line Solutions company is also operating school zone cameras in Carencro, Louisiana. Other communities are also looking at installing speed cameras as a way to reduce traffic accidents and deaths.
