SHREVEPORT, LA, November 30, 2011: Shreveport Public Assembly &

Recreation (SPAR) announces that the KCS Holiday Express Train will

visit Shreveport’s Festival Plaza on Monday December 5, 2011. The

festive, six car train features Santa Claus and his elves and will

be open to the public beginning at 4:00pm.

This is the 11th year that Kansas City Southern (KCS) has run

the KCS Holiday Express Train. This year it will be open to the

public on 27 dates in 25 communities of which Shreveport was

included. Led by KCS’ Southern Belle business train, the Holiday

Express train includes a smiling tank car “Rudy”; a flatcar carrying

Santa’s sleigh, reindeer and a miniature village; a ginger bread

boxcar; a newly remodeled elves’ workshop; the reindeer stable; and

a little red caboose.

According to the KCS press release, the Holiday Express has a

charitable component. At each scheduled stop, The KCS Charitable

Fund will make a contribution of gift cards to the local Salvation

Army to provide clothing and other necessities for children in need.

SPAR’s Save The Children Youth Community Choir will sing

Christmas carols. Concessions will be available. The general public

is invited to attend. Admission is free.
