Shreveport’s James Burton Plays With Aretha Franklin In Rare ’65 Footage [VIDEO]
As tributes from around the world continue the late Aretha Franklin, film and videos of the legendary "Queen of Soul" are resurfacing. And that includes this rare footage from the mid-60s ABC rock 'n roll, live performance series "Shindig". In this footage from 1965 the legendary Franklin is joined by Shreveport's own guitar legend James Burton.
In this amazing rendition of "The Shoop Shoop Song", Aretha is joined, not only by the iconic Burton (who at the time was a lad of only 25), but Billy Preston ("Will It Go 'Round In Circles," among others) on keyboards and Rock 'N Roll Hall of Famer Darlene Love on backup vocals.
Franklin, who died of pancreatic cancer Thursday at the age of 76, had a career that spanned six decades, won 18 Grammy awards and was the first woman to be inducted into the Rock 'N Roll Hall of Fame, that in 1987.
