Shreveport Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest in Shooting
SHREVEPORT, LA-
Shreveport police were able to make an arrest after a traffic stop led to the officers finding multiple weapons. But the shooting incident had actually happened a month before the stop. On June 4th, 2023, at 10:00 a.m., Shreveport Police officers responded to a shooting call in the 5100 block of Westwood Park.
Arriving officers discovered a crime scene in which a male was injured by gunfire. Investigation into the matter reviewed that the injured male was Tomyren Kelly (1-24-99). Kelly was also found to be armed with a firearm. Investigators found that Kelly and another male were involved in a verbal altercation in which both produced firearms and shot simultaneously inside of a local hotel lobby.
Shreveport Police Violent Crimes Detectives responded to the scene and as a result of the investigation, Tomyren Kelly was arrested for one count of illegal use of a firearm and one count of felon in possession of a firearm. Kelly is expected to recover.
Detectives continued their investigation and found that the other male involved was Lawron Johnson (02/12/93). Warrants for his arrest were then obtained by detectives for aggravated battery, illegal use of a weapon, and felon in possession of a firearm.
On July 12th, 2023, around 1:30 p.m. Shreveport Police patrol officers conducted a traffic stop in the 700 block of Ratcliff Drive. During this stop, Johnson was taken into custody for his outstanding warrants. Officers also found him to be in possession of two firearms, one hand, and one assault-style rifle. Johnson was additionally charged with another count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. The firearms have been seized as evidence.
