SHREVEPORT, LA - A Haughton woman is headed to federal prison on tax fraud charges. 39-year-old Sharhonda Law has been sentenced to 20 months in prison by federal judge Maurice Hicks, Jr. .

Evidence in the case shows that Law was a federal income tax return preparer. She owned Law’s Tax Service in Shreveport. She did all of the tax returns handled by the company. Evidence also showed she filed a tax return in 2019 that had false and fraudulent information in it. That return had a claim of “Profit or Loss from Farming.” But the client did not have farming income and did not have farming expenses.

But because of this filing, the client got a tax refund which should not have happened. The client actually owed the IRS money for 2019.

The client never told Law they owned or operated a farm. And no documentation was provided about farm related income or expenses.

Back in November, Law pled guilty to one count of aiding and assisting in making and subscribing a false return.

The feds say Law made similar misrepresentations on six other tax returns prepared for clients. In addition, she was also accused of falsifying her own income on two of her personal tax returns, and she failed to file tax returns for other years. The total criminal tax loss in this case was determined to be $123,455.
