At approximately 4 p.m. on June 9, Shreveport Police officers responded to a call regarding a theft in the 3000 block of North Market Street. The initial report indicated that a male was stealing items from a local drugstore. Upon arrival, officers observed the suspect across the street at a gas station.

As officers attempted to make contact, the suspect, identified as 36-year-old Travis Sullivan, began pouring gasoline on himself and the ground. He then set the gasoline on the ground on fire and threw gasoline at the officers, attempting to ignite them.

Despite the extreme danger, Shreveport Police Department patrol officers were able to take Sullivan into custody without using deadly force. Sullivan has been charged with:

- Two counts of battery on an officer

- Three counts of aggravated assault on a police officer

- Arson

- Theft

Fortunately, no one was seriously injured during this highly perilous incident.

Shreveport Police Chief Smith commends the exemplary actions of the responding officers for their bravery and professionalism in handling the situation and preventing a potential catastrophe.
