If it seems like it's been raining a lot in Shreveport-Bossier, there's a good reason for that. It has. Seemingly, at least once a week for the past month or two, we've been getting strong and excessive rainstorms. We'll get into the numbers and all that here shortly.

But, as much as it has rained and as much as we are above average on the rainfall front, we're no where close to setting a record. The record for rainfall was set back in August of 2016, where many areas received close to 30 inches of rain over a two day period. To put that in perspective, most months in Louisiana we don't see 30 inches.

Like I said, we've seen a lot of rain over the past month or so. According to the National Weather Service, we're well above average this year.

Since January 1st, Shreveport has seen 40.68 inches of rain. On average, we generally see about 22.87 inches. So we're already 17.81 inches above our average. This month alone, we've seen 9.73 inches. The normal amount of rain for May is 4.08 inches, so we're up over 5 inches there.

Even compared to last year, where we also so an above average amount of rain in the first half of the year, we're up. As noted above, since January 1st we've already received 40.68 inches of rain. Last year over the same time period, we saw 32.57 inches. So, we're out pacing a well above normal spring already and there's allegedly more rain on the way.

Weather Forecast For Shreveport Through the Rest of The Spring

While the National Weather Service is predicting a hotter than normal summer, we're also expected to see a lot of rain through the rest of spring and the early part of the summer.

Not only are we supposed to have a super active and potentially violent hurricane season, it's also looking like the possibility of severe thunderstorms are still in our near future.

This week alone, there's at least a 40% chance of rain everyday between now (Wednesday May 29th) through Sunday (June 2nd). There's also the possibility of some storms late next week as well.

So between thunderstorms and tropical storms, it doesn't sound like we're going to dry out any time in the near future.
