SHREVEPORT, LA-     Shreveport Police Remind Citizens Not to Speed

On September 9, 2024, the Shreveport Police Department’s traffic unit, in partnership with the Louisiana State Police, conducted a LIDAR Speed Enforcement Operation targeting excessive speed and aggressive driving violations within the city. This operation was part of an ongoing effort to address the rising number of fatal crashes linked to speeding.

So far, during the 2024 calendar year, the Shreveport Police Department Crash Investigation Unit has responded to 24 fatal crashes within the city limits. With speed identified as a significant causative factor in many of these incidents, the department has prioritized reducing dangerous driving behaviors to improve road safety for all residents.

During the operation, officers stopped 94 vehicles and issued a total of 114 citations. Among these, 71 were for speeding violations. The average speed of those cited was 83 mph, with the highest recorded speed being 95 mph.

The Shreveport Police Department urges all drivers to adhere to posted speed limits and drive safely. Speeding not only endangers the lives of those on the road but also increases the likelihood of severe injuries or fatalities in the event of a crash. The department remains committed to enforcing traffic laws and promoting safe driving habits to protect our community.
