SHREVEPORT, LA – The news for at least one pharmacy is not good and it has me wondering if this change will impact a Shreveport location. A story from a colleague in Texas has confirmed that Drug Emporium in Amarillo is closing the pharmacy in the store. Could the same thing happen at the Shreveport store?

Is the Local Pharmacy in Jeopardy of Closing?

No. That's the simple answer. I am a loyal Drug Emporium pharmacy customer. All of my doctors know to call in my meds to the Kings Highway store. It’s just one of those places I am very comfortable in. They know me and take good care of all my medication needs. It is a neighborhood store and it really has that feel. It doesn’t feel like corporate America.

So, I got a little stressed out to learn at least one of the company’s pharmacies would be shutting down. I put in a call to one of the managers of the local store who told me “that is absolutely not going to happen in Shreveport.” In fact, she told me the pharmacy at the Shreveport store is #1 in the company. It was so good to hear that.

Pharmacies Have Been Closing Around the Nation

The pharmacy business has been in quite a turmoil over the past few years. At least 7,000 pharmacies have been shut down since 2019 as more folks buy their meds online. I just like that hands-on personal service.

I also like to get my meds right away. I don’t want to have to wait a day or two for delivery. Maybe I’m old school. But that’s the way it is.

Personal Service Is the Difference at Drug Emporium

And at Drug Emporium, you won’t find self-checkout lanes. I always find friendly staffers who are ready to help get me checked out every time I visit the local store.

I also find great deals on things you might not even know about until you walk into the store.

Drug Emporium has two stores in Louisiana: Lafayette and Shreveport. They have several stores in Texas including Tyler and Longview.
