Shreveport Nature Park to Hold 18th Annual Owl Night
If you've ever wanted to get up close and personal with an owl, this is your chance to do so. The Walter B. Jacobs Nature Memorial Park is presenting their 18th Annual Owl Night this Saturday, February 11th.
Rusty Scarborough with Walter B. Jacobs Nature Memorial Park recently visited KEEL News and brought with him a beautiful Great Horned Owl.
This free event has lots to do for all ages, including:
- Live Owl Encounters
- Naturalist Presentations
- Storytime
- Night Hikes
- Arts & Crafts
- Games
- Artist Vendors
- Free S'mores by the Fire
- Food Trucks
Parking is limited at the park, so they are offering free shuttle service from Richard Fleming Park at 7919 West Lakeshore Drive.
This will be the last Owl Night at the current Walter B. Jacobs facility, as they will begin demolition of the current buildings in July, before beginning construction this summer on an all new facility, expected to open February 2025.
The 160-acre nature park is located three miles west of Blanchard and contains a pine/oak/hickory forest featuring five miles of nature trails. The park has an interpretive building, a rentable pavilion with restrooms, a handicapped-accessible trail, and several naturalists who provide information and interpretation to park visitors. Nature oriented programs are available on an appointment basis.
