Shreveport Man Arrested on Bourbon Street with Illegal Gun
A Shreveport man is arrested in the French Quarter in New Orleans on gun charges. A report from NOPD sent to KEEL News shows 20-year-old Fredreis Vercher was arrested on Bourbon Street on Saturday August 7th. He is accused of illegal possession of a firearm and for possession of a Schedule I CDS (marijuana).
A witness told NOPD about a suspicious man carrying a concealed gun trying to go into a nightclub on Bourbon Street at Orleans Avenue Saturday afternoon at about 5;16 p.m..
Officers approached the suspect and tried to question him, but he ran off. He was finally caught on St. Ann Street about 2 blocks from where he was spotted by the witness.
Vercher allegedly threw a fanny pack under a car while he was running away. Officers recovered that fanny pack and found a Model 21 Glock 45 caliber handgun inside it. The marijuana was found on Vercher during a search.
Vercher was arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center on the following charges:
LA RS 14:95, relative to illegal carrying of a firearm
LA RS 40.966, relative to prohibited acts – Schedule I Drugs: Possession of Marijuana (2.0 grams)
Vercher was not believed to have been involved in a shooting spree in the French Quarter which left 5 people wounded. A 17-year-old has been arrested in connection with that incident.
