Shreveport Toddler Rescued from Hot Car on Westport Drive
Blistering heat has been baking the Shreveport area for the past couple of weeks. And residents are reminded that a hot car can be dangerous or even deadly.
Shreveport Police have arrested a woman after a two-year-old child was found left alone in a hot car outside the Dollar Tree on Westport Drive. The car was not left running while the child's parent apparently went into the store to shop.
Around 10:30 a.m., officers were called by a concerned citizen who saw the toddler unattended in the back seat of the car. Officers who pulled up to the scene and found the child strapped in a car seat and sweating heavily.
Officers found a car window down, but the inside of the car was dangerously hot.
The officers were able to safely get the child out of the car before this turned into a tragedy.

The child's mother, LaCrystol Johnson was arrested shortly after she came out of the store. She has been charged with one count of child desertion.
Johnson told the officers she believed the child would be safe because the window was rolled down. But it was really hot. The temperature was 93 degrees and the inside of the car was much higher than that, posing extreme risk to the child.
Police want to thank the quick action of the concerned citizen who called police after spotting this incident. These actions might have saved the life of this child.
Police remind parents and guardians to never leave a child alone in a vehicle—especially during the summer months. August is typically the hottest month of the year, and even a short time inside a hot car can turn deadly.
