What You Need to Do to Avoid Heat Illnesses
Be sure to stay hydrated. Drink lots of fluids. Stay indoors in air conditioning if at all possible. Be sure to stay out of direct sunlight if you must be outside. You are also urged to check in on relatives and neighbors.
If you have to be outside, wear loose fitting and lightweight clothing. Limit any strenuous activity to early morning or evening hours. Be sure to take action when you see any symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke.
This heat wave is spreading from the south across the midwest and it could be with us for several days.
The National Weather Service has issued excessive heat warnings and watches and heat advisories for millions across the South, Plains and Midwest. Expect these alerts to shift around with the heat dome through the week.
