Shreveport Fight Leads to Shooting & Multiple Arrests by K-9
SHREVEPORT, LA- Shreveport Police Department K-9 Assists in Shooting Arrest
In the early hours of August 25th, around 2:00 a.m., Shreveport Police Department (SPD) officers responded to a call about a fight at 4305 Illinois Street. While on the scene, officers heard multiple gunshots. Two gunshot victims were subsequently transported by private vehicle to local hospitals for medical treatment. The male victim sustained a gunshot wound and is expected to make a full recovery. Unfortunately, the female victim suffered life-threatening injuries.
SPD Patrol officers detained a suspect at the scene, who was attempting to tamper with evidence. The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Tyshaun Brown, was arrested and charged with obstruction of justice.
During the investigation, K-9 officers observed a male suspect attempting to flee the main crime scene in a vehicle. Despite officers' attempts to stop the vehicle, the suspect refused to comply, leading to a short vehicle pursuit. The suspect then abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. K-9 "Edy" successfully apprehended the suspect, identified as 42-year-old Billy Nelson. Nelson was subsequently charged with illegal use of a firearm and aggravated flight. SPD Violent Crimes Detectives have since linked him to the shooting.
This remains an active investigation led by SPD Violent Crimes Detectives. The female remains in serious condition. We urge anyone with information about this case to contact the Shreveport Police Department.
We commend our officers, detectives, and especially K-9 "Edy" for their outstanding work in this case.
