SHREVEPORT, LA – Tragedy in north Shreveport where a house fire has claimed the lives of three people. A 4th victim is in critical condition.

The Shreveport Fire Department responded to a house fire just after 6:30 Sunday morning on Kemp Lane in the MLK Community.

Firefighters arrived within five minutes of the 911 call and found flames coming from the front of the one-story family home. This fire was so intense, more than 30 firefighters were called in to battle the blaze.

During a search of the house, firefighters found the bodies of four victims, all of them believed to be residents of the home. Life-saving efforts were performed on the scene and all four victims were rushed to local hospitals. Three of the victims were pronounced deceased. At last report, the fourth victim was in critical condition.

Investigators believe the fire started in a front room of the house, but the official cause remains under investigation by Shreveport Fire Investigators and the Office of Louisiana State Fire Marshal.

Shreveport Fire Issued This Information About the Victims:

The identities and causes of death of the three deceased victims are forthcoming from the Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office. Speaking about this tragedy, Fire Chief Clarence Reese stated, “Our hearts and our prayers go out to this family and also to this community. Any fire death affects not only one community, but it affects the city of Shreveport.”

This home did not have any smoke alarms installed. Smoke alarms, when installed properly and maintained, provide a critical early notification to help you put your fire escape plan into action. On average, a person has less than 2 minutes in which to escape from a burning house. Every second matters. The public is encouraged to test their smoke alarms once a month. If you or someone you know does not have a smoke alarm, the Shreveport Fire Department can install one for free.
