Shreveport Police Investigating Fatal Accident on I-20
Shreveport Police Department received multiple calls regarding a pedestrian in the roadway on I-20 westbound at the I-49 north interchange last week.
Before officers could find the person in the road, additional calls came in indicating the pedestrian had been hit by a car. Officers arrived on scene at approximately 1:00 a.m.
When SPD got to the scene, Officers located an unresponsive man in the road, later identified as Ahmad King. Officers began life-saving measures, including sternum rubs and CPR, until emergency medical personnel got to the scene.
The Shreveport Fire Department took King to Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport, where he was pronounced deceased.
During the investigation, SPD interviewed witnesses. Both said that King had been seen running back and forth across the interstate while traffic was actively approaching. Witnesses further reported that he avoided being hit by an 18-wheeler moments before being hit by a black car.
The driver stayed on scene and cooperated with investigators.
This remains an active investigation.
From SPD:
"Pedestrians are strictly prohibited from being on the interstate. These roadways are designed for high-speed vehicle traffic, and entering them on foot is extremely dangerous and often fatal."
