Shreveport’s High-Risk Intersections: A Driver’s Alert
SHREVEPORT, LA - One of the problems Shreveport has been dealing with over the past couple of years is traffic fatalities. Police have beefed up patrols to catch impaired driving. In fact, Shreveport makes more DWI arrests than any other city in the state.
SPD made 591 DWI arrests in 2024.
But we are still dealing with thousands of traffic accidents every year. Typically more than 2/3 of those wrecks are considered fender benders with no injuries. But there are still thousands that do result in injury and some are fatal.
The data for 2023 shows there were 9700 traffic accidents. More than 6400 of those crashes are considered minor with no injuries. There were also more than 2100 minor hit and run accidents.

If you want to avoid getting into a crash, there are some intersections that are more dangerous that others. Shreveport Police provided us with a list of intersections that have high numbers of crashes. Some of these spots have changed from our 2023 report.
One year ago, these intersections were on the list:
Mansfield and Terry Bradshaw Passway 43 wrecks
Bert Kouns and Blom 43 wrecks
North Market and I-220 44 wrecks
Linwood and Terry Bradshaw Passway 44 wrecks
These 4 intersections have fallen off the list for 2024. A couple of new spots make the list of dangerous intersections. Pines and Financial Plaza has not been on this list for many years, but I think it is #4 on the list for 2024 because of the construction that's been going on in that area over the past year.
Traffic accident calls typically take up at least 2-3 hours for several police officers to respond to the crash and do a full investigation. Some of these wrecks involve many hours especially if there is an 18-wheeler involved with any kind of spill. It the wreck involves a detour, it involves many officers to help direct traffic around the mess.
